TIM MERINO, Caller
Tim Merino began square dance calling in 1980 in Oroville, California. During those early years, he called for the Chico State Allemanders, Sierra Steppers, and Table Mountain Stompers—often calling three or four nights a week. After four busy and exciting years, he retired his microphone in 1984.
Nearly 30 years later, Tim and his wife, Liz, returned to square dancing as “retread dancers.” Each time Tim stepped into a square and heard the music, the old calling bug returned. With encouragement from Liz and from dancers—including some he had taught more than 30 years earlier—Tim decided to dust off his microphone and become a caller again.
Returning after such a long break brought a few surprises. Some familiar calls had been retired, many new ones had been added, and the old 45 RPM records had been replaced by digital music played from a laptop—a change Tim enthusiastically welcomed.
Today, Tim calls for the Promenaders in Chico, the Mavericks in Roseville, and the Jet Sets Advanced group, also in Roseville. He calls club dances throughout the West Coast and is a featured caller at festivals.
Tim is a recording artist for the Rawhide Gold Collection and Hi-Hat Music. He enjoys calling several levels, from Social Square Dancing through Advanced—and says he is working “pretty darn hard” on the latter!
He is also the “instigator” behind SquareDanceFun.com, a nationwide resource that helps clubs promote their classes and makes it easier for prospective dancers to find square dance lessons in their area.
Tim’s calling philosophy is simple: make sure everybody is having as much fun as possible. “I enjoy calling a smooth dance and interacting with the dancers,” he says. “It is rewarding to see their interest and response to my calling.”

Tim & Liz Merino
Holly Ferreira, Caller
Holly Ferreira was born and raised in Los Molinos, California, and now lives in the farming community of Sutter. Growing up, she was active in 4-H and the National FFA Organization, where she raised Southdown sheep.
Holly discovered square dancing about 16 years ago after visiting the Good Vibrations Square Dance Club booth at a county fair. She quickly became a regular dancer and even sewed many of her own square dance outfits.
Her interest in calling began when she taught square dance calls to her second-grade students for a parent performance. After participating in a new caller’s night, she was hooked.
Holly is a member of the Good Vibrations Square Dance Club in Marysville and has called the Mavericks’ Wednesday night classes since 2021. She is licensed through Broadcast Music, Inc. and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, and is a member of CALLERLAB.

Kevin & Vicki Klein, Cuers
Kevin started square dancing in high school in 1969, Vicki in 1980 when she and Kevin were first dating; and they both began round dancing in 1981. They were married in southern California in 1982 and later moved to northern California in 1992 where their dance activities were put on hold to raise their two sons. They returned to their dancing activities in 2005. Vicki’s favorite rhythm is Foxtrot while Kevin’s is West Coast Swing!
Kevin & Vicki are members of The International Association of Round Dance Teachers (Roundalab) and Northern California Round Dance Teachers Association (NCRDTA). Kevin previously served as NCRDTA’s Treasurer (2010-2018) and President (2018-2020); and they are currently serving on Roundalab’s Board of Directors (2020-2023) and Executive Council (2021-2022). They are also members of the International Choreographed Ballroom Dance Association (ICBDA).
Kevin & Vicki have taught at two National Square Dance Conventions, six USA West Square Dance Conventions, three California State Square Dance Conventions, two Silver State Square Dance Festivals, and five Golden State Round Up Festivals. They have choreographed numerous round dances, many being featured by other round dance teachers and organizations.
